Made in Cloister is a project that was conceived in Naples in 2011 from the desire to combine the promotion and innovation of traditional craftsmanship with the preservation of architectural heritage.
The restoration of the sixteenth century cloister of Santa Caterina, a true example of Renaissance architecture in Naples, allows to reclaim the ideal space for those cultural, artisanal and artistic activities that characterise Made in Cloister
The Project
After completion of the restoration, the chapel will become a place of meeting, experimenting and creating in which artists and designers will be able to live and interact with the master craftsmen who will, from time to time, be involved in specific projects. Particular attention will be given to the creative and production process, documenting the stage of research, design and construction, with the aim of developing the knowledge and dissemination of the craft, the values that underlie it and to honour the spirit of these extraordinary craftsmen. Inside the cloister, visibility will be given to the work conceived in the period of residence of the artists, through exhibitions, musical and theatrical performances, readings, etc. A commercial space will also be created where you can buy limited editions and small editions of artefacts Made in Cloister.
There will also be seminars, conferences, conversations, meetings focused on artisan culture, its social and economic implications, as well as the importance of promoting the local area. A program of training activities, to be carried out in close collaboration with the workshops, will be aimed at young Italians and from other countries, selected by special committees.
